Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most often. Can't find what you're looking for? Drop us a line and we'll come back to you.
Getting started
BetaPass is a single, credit-based membership that gives you access
to independent recreation venues — climbing centres, gyms, yoga
studios, martial arts academies and more. Buy credits, walk in, scan
your QR. One pass, every activity.
Register an account, add a subscription, and top up your first
credit pack. The whole flow takes about two minutes — and you can
be walking into a venue the same day.
No — BetaPass runs in your browser. For convenience you can save
your QR code to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, so it's available
on your lock screen even without signal.
Credits & payments
Every venue sets its own credit price per activity. You'll always
see the price clearly before you check in — and at the venue
itself before you tap your QR. Typical costs range from 5 credits
(a swim) to 15 credits (a guided climbing instructor session).
No. Whatever you don't spend stays on your account indefinitely.
Take a season off, come back when you're ready — your balance
will still be there.
Because credits never expire we don't routinely refund them — but
we'll always look at individual cases (a venue closing, a long
illness). Get in touch and we'll sort it.
Payments are processed by Stripe, the same provider used by Shopify,
Uber and Lyft. Your card number never touches our servers — we only
ever see the last four digits for reference on your top-up history.
Subsidies & partners
BetaPass works with Local Active Partners —
councils, employers, health bodies, community funders — who put
credit behind specific activities for specific audiences. If your
profile matches one of their schemes, the discount is applied
automatically when you check in. You don't have to apply or prove
anything at the venue.
The partner organisation sets the criteria — typically things
like age range, postcode, employer, or a referral pathway.
BetaPass just matches member profiles to active schemes; we
don't decide who's eligible for what.
Complete the profile fields on your account — date of birth,
postcode, employer if relevant, any referral codes you've been
given. Once your profile is complete, the Discover page will
show the subsidised credit price on any activity you qualify for,
and the discount will be applied automatically at check-in.
No. The venue's reception view just shows that your visit is
valid and how many credits to deduct. Whether you're on a
standard or subsidised rate doesn't appear at the front desk and
isn't visible to other members.
At the venue
Open BetaPass (or Apple/Google Wallet) and show your QR to the
front-desk team. They scan it, the activity is confirmed, your
credits are deducted, and you're in. The whole exchange takes
seconds.
For drop-in activities like climbing, gym access or open mat, no —
just turn up. Booked classes (yoga, fitness courses) usually still
need to be reserved through the venue's own booking system; you
still pay using BetaPass credits when you arrive.
Each venue can upload its own waiver to BetaPass. The first time
you visit somewhere new, you'll be asked to sign it on your phone
— and never again at that venue. Some activities (lead climbing
especially) may also require an in-person assessment; the venue
will let you know on the day.
Account & family
Yes — add as many individuals as you like to a single subscription.
Each gets their own QR. Credits draw from your shared pot, so it's
easy to keep household training spend in one place.
The minimum needed to run the service: who you are, which venues
you've visited and when, what you've signed, and your top-up
history. We don't sell your data and we don't share visit details
with venues you haven't been to.
From My Account → Manage. Closing your account removes
your personal data; visit and payment records are retained in
anonymised form for accounting and audit purposes.
For venues
Get in touch via the About page. We'll walk you through the setup,
help you decide what activities to offer and at what credit prices,
and onboard your reception team. There's no setup fee and no
exclusivity.
Not in our experience. BetaPass tends to attract people who would
never sign a fixed monthly contract — occasional users, students,
visitors, people exploring a new sport. It's incremental footfall,
not cannibalisation.
BetaPass reconciles visits and pays out monthly. You receive a
detailed statement of which members visited, what they did, and
the credit value owed — minus the platform's small commission.
